Obituary:
Paul D. Wahpat (45) of Wapato died on Friday February 5, 2010 as a result of a motor vehicle accident outside of Toppenish. He was born in Toppenish on May 1, 1964 to Sarah Wahpat. He was raised and educated in Wapato and graduated in 1983. Paul attended Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, OR and was in the fisheries program. He worked for the Yakama Nation in Forestry, TERO, Tribal Police as a game warden, and fire management. He was an avid softball player and he played for the Yakima Beetles out of high school. He worked currently at Yakama Wood Products in White Swan as Human Resource Manager. He is survived by his mother, Sarah Wahpat of Wapato; his stepfather, Martin (Mina) Crowder of Toppenish; his girlfriend, Evelyn Wilson; five children, Erick of Japan, Mike of California, Karli, Nathan and Julia all of Union Gap; three sisters, Rosalinda Borndnam of Vancouver, Victoria Crowder of Wapato and Cecelia Shike of Wapato; two uncles, Luke (Charlotte) Wahpat of White Swan and Victor Gardee of Toppenish and one aunt, Rose Peo of Wapato; one niece and four nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Julie (Gunnier) Wahpat, one sister and one uncle. Dressing services will be held at 1PM Monday at Colonial Funeral Home. Overnight services will follow at the 1910 Shaker Church in White Swan with a funeral on Tuesday at 7AM. Interment will follow at the Emuenot Cemetery in Wiley City.
